In the Spotlight | Hourglass Cosmetics

Today I thought I would kick off a new series of posts which will feature a review dedicated to an entire makeup brand. I hope to do both a mixture of high end and drugstore brands however, today I have started off on the more luxurious side with Hourglass Cosmetics.

Hourglass Cosmetics was first introduced in 2004 by beauty industry expert Carisa Janes and features innovative products that reinvent luxurious cosmetics. It’s main selling point is the combination of science, beauty and luxury shown through breakthrough formulations, technological innovations and absolutely gorgeous packaging. It can be found in stores like Bergdorf Goodman, John Lewis, Mecca, Net-A-Porter, Liberty, Space NK, Harrod’s as well as Sephora’s in the US, Canada, Italy, Brazil and Mexico.

I obviously don’t own every item that they carry however I feel that the products I have purchased provide a good overall scope of the brand and quality of their products. For all those “lip” and “eye” girls out there I apologise because I unfortunately don’t have any lip or eye products from Hourglass as I am typically more of a “face” kinda girl but hopefully in the future, I will start to branch out a bit! Nonetheless, let’s get into the products.

Mineral Veil Primer ($25-69AUD): This is honestly one of my holy grail primers. Because it is a mineral based primer, there are added skincare benefits which prevent clogging of your pores. It is also oil free which is great for all those oily and combo girls as it prevents shine however even if you aren’t oily, you can still use this primer as it creates a flawless base underneath your foundation.

Immaculate Liquid to Powder Foundation ($74AUD): This foundation is definitely one for the oily girls out there as it gives a velvety matte finish and doesn’t need to be powdered over. It is about a medium coverage however, it is buildable. I will typically only wear this during the summertime as my skin is normally combination and it will cling to my dry patches. This foundation in particular boasts major skincare benefits of oil control and oil reduction over time. I’m not entirely sure if it reduces oil over time but it definitely will control the oil on your face throughout the day without having to touch up.

Ambient Lighting Powder Palette ($76AUD): This little gem is definitely a feast for the eyes containing 3 of their Ambient Lighting Powders, one being exclusive to the palette. The shades are Dim light, Incandescent light and Radiant light and they are typically used as setting powders or highlighters. I will normally use dim light all over the face to set my makeup in place. These powders are gorgeously smooth and so finely milled you can hardly detect them on the skin but still give a beautiful glow. I would highly recommend this product as it is great value for money when you normally pay $59 for the price of one.

Ambient Lighting Blush – Diffused Heat ($46AUD):  This product is quite a unique one in the beauty world as it is a perfect mixture of both a highlighter and a blush. It isn’t overly shimmery but like the Ambient lighting Powders, still gives a gorgeous, healthy glow to the skin while adding a subtle hint of colour with the blush. Diffused Heat in particular is a gorgeous pinky red which some golden shimmer which is perfect for all year round.

Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil ($44AUD): This final product is actually my first purchase from Hourglass so it has a little bit of sentimental value. It is a brow product that shares a similar shape with both the Burberry and Tom Ford brow pencils. The pencil itself is a waxy based formula with quite a wedge-like shape so is great for those days when you’re in a rush. It also comes with a really nice spoolie on the other end to comb through the brows. The only downside to this product unfortunately is that the lid on the spoolie end keeps falling off so I’m not sure if I got a faulty one or if this is the case for all the others.

I hope you enjoyed the first post in this new little series and what are some of your favourite Hourglass products? Also, let me know what other brands you would like to see an “In the Spotlight” on in the future.

    • Thanks so much, I’m glad you liked it! It’s an amazing product, maybe try and ask for a sample next time you’re at the Hourglass counter, they’re usually happy to provide that sort of thing xx

  2. Great post. Hourglass is a terrific brand. My favorites are the Ambient Lighting palette and the No. 28 Primer Serum (but that’s better for dry skin). –Angela

The primer is my holy grail! I actually use it by itself with nothing else on my face (not a big face makeup gal) and it looks beautiful and smooth.
