Review | Cheek to Cheek

Hello again! Firstly, would like to apologise for my 3 week absence due to various uni, work and life commitments which is really no excuse but nonetheless, I am back. As I am now on summer holidays, I will have a lot more time on my hands so expect more frequent blog posts coming your way (especially in the lead up to Christmas). Now that I’ve covered all the boring stuff let’s get stuck into some makeup talk shall we? Today’s post will feature a review and comparison of three different limited edition blush and cheek palettes released by Nars, Tarte and Hourglass for the 2014 Holiday season.

Nars Virtual Domination Cheek Palette – $65USD: When it comes to Christmas designs, Nars have really outdone themselves this year and to be quite honest with you all, I would probably buy this product on the packaging alone. Cute packaging aside, this is a seriously good cheek palette. Whilst on the pricer end of holiday palettes, this little beauty comes with a highlighter in the shade Miss Liberty three blush shades in Sex Fantasy, Deep Throat and Final Cut and their famous Laguna bronzer which can also be used as a contour. So essentially you are buying three products in one. As usual when it comes to Nars cheek products, the pigmentation and finish of these powders are flawless and easily blendable thanks to their smooth and creamy texture.

Tarte 12 Hour Amazonian Clay Pin Up Girl Palette – $42USD: Coming in at the cheapest of all three palettes, this Tarte product gives you some serious bang for your buck. With five shades (Breathless, Embraced, Whimsy, Bashful and Irreplaceable) of their highly raved about Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blushes, this is a blush lovers dream. Although I’m not the biggest fan of the packaging, the actual product inside with blow you away. The pigmentation of these blushes is so crazy that even the slightest touch of your brush will pick up enough product for both cheeks. This palette contains a range of shades for different occasions, seasons and looks.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Wardrobe – $58USD: Finally onto the most aesthetically pleasing product in my entire makeup collection. Yep, I will just give you a moment to take it all in. To be quite honest with you, when I first received this beauty in the mail, I stared at it for a good 10 minutes without even touching it. But as you may or may not know, I am a complete sucker for Hourglass products and when I heard that this palette was coming out for the holidays it shot up to number one on my wishlist (priorities, I know). This product contains three of Hourglass’s Ambient Lighting blushes in the shades Luminous Flush and Mood Exposure, with one limited edition shade in Incandescent Electra, exclusive to the palette. As most or if not all of Hourglass’s products are perfection, this one does not fail to live up to my expectations and provides 3 blush shades that give your cheeks a beautiful glow with a splash of colour that will pull any look together. It is the definition of subtlety and class.

So which one of these are worth getting you may ask? Personally, I love all three for different reasons. The Nars palette is great for travelling as you have 3 products in one. The Tarte palette is the best value for money with 5 blush shades for only $42USD and the Hourglass palette is not only stunning to look at but the actual product inside is beyond words. When it all comes down to it though, it’s personal preference as all three of these palettes are equally as amazing in quality.

Which one of these palettes would you choose? Have you managed to get your hands on them and how did you like them?

I really wanted to get the Nars palette but by the time I got to Mecca it was fully sold out. I did however get the hourglass palette and it’s amazing! I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought the tarte packaging was a bit fugly haha.

Tarte blushes are way too pigmented for my fair skin …

    • Oh how lovely, I did see that one too but decided against it probably because I have too much blush as it is. Oh that’s disappointing, what if you blended them out with a foundation brush? Would that perhaps work? xx
